Helping Your Child Love Vegetables
Many children don’t like vegetables because of:
- The texture and the way they feel in their mouths
- The bitter taste of many vegetables
- The fear of something trying something new
The good news is that we can help children cultivate a love of vegetables!
Research suggests these these 5 tips:
- We can encourage children’s interest in vegetables through early repeated exposure to many kinds of vegetables. This means trying again and again!
- Start early. The earlier you start exploring different vegetables with children, the better.
- Make it fun and positive. Let your children see how much you LOVE eating your vegetables!
- Make vegetables available as snacks and at lunch. The more the veggies are available, the more chances to nibble on them!
- It takes a village. Invite your child’s school or other families to learn ways to encourage vegetables and healthy eating.

Are Your Children Afraid of Trying New Foods?
Food “neophobia”, or the fear of trying new foods, is a struggle for many children and their caregivers.
